Zoom has critical security issues regarding privacy and related problems

A sudden explosion in popularity has led to the discovery of several security weaknesses that had previously gone unnoticed The software has issues and is not as robust as it was originally proclaimed. Zoom’s software shows weakness at this volume and level of communication with so many visitors at one time. Statistics show that Zoom meetings surged from 10 million in December 2019, to 200 million in March 2020. A 2000% increase in volume. Any young system would need to undergo rapid testing of its software especially around privacy. Zoom is no different. Zoom’s recent security practices have been drawing attention and there are at least three lawsuits against the company. 

Pirates are infiltrating Zoom – They “Zoomboming”

There has been a surge in “Zoombombing” activity lately. This is where hackers/ uninvited guests break into harass guests and disrupt meetings, with their own agenda, usually displaying unapproved and inappropriate content.

Zoom app’s updates urgently needed.

Recently Zoom has made an important change to its app’s interface. This new update brings additional protection against “Zoombombing”.

In a recent blog update, Zoom specified its product updates. This included a new security toolbar icon for hosts, meeting ID no longer to be displayed. It was further noted that the “New icon simplifies how hosts can quickly find and enable many of Zoom’s in-meeting security features.”

“Google” Bans – Zoom

It quoted that a Google spokesperson said, “Google sent an email last week to all its employees about banning the app. ……  it does not meet our security standards for apps used by our employees.”

Zoom offers a full-featured Basic Plan for free with unlimited meetings. Try Zoom for as long as you like – there is no trial period. Your Basic plan has a 40 minutes time limit on meetings with three or more total participants. Need your group meetings to last longer than 40 minutes? Then consider the Pro, Business, Enterprise options at a price.
